Save the date for the 2nd Annual High Bridge Ride - Saturday, April 27, 2019
Thanks to all our riders, friends, families, sponsors, friends and everyone who supported the 1st Annual High Bridge Ride.
How do I register for the ride?
Once you click on a link to "Register" or "Join our Team" or "Sign Up" on our website, you will be directed to the High Bridge Ride on Alzheimer's "The Longest Day" page.
- In order to register as a rider, click on "Join our Team". (If you look at "Our Team Story", you'll see a June 21st date. That is the date for the national "The Longest Day" event. That is not the date for the High Bridge Ride. The date for our High Bridge Ride is April 21st, 2018. You can schedule a "Longest Day" event any day of the year and April 21, 2018 is what we selected.)
-Most of you have not participated in an Alzheimer's event before, so answer the next question "No" as you sign up.
-The next page asks if you want to order a "Longest Day" t-shirt. You are welcome to order one, but please know that you will receive a High Bridge Ride t-shirt if you reach a $100 fundraising goal (between your donation and your family and friends fundraising). Our High Bridge Ride t-shirts will also be for sale the day of the ride .
-When you scroll down on the "Longest Day" sign in you will see a request for a promotional code. We do not have a promotional code for the ride.
-Scrolling down, the site automatically sets your suggested fundraising goal at $300. Although we hope that every rider donates or raises at least $50, you do not have to donate or raise any amount to ride our event.
Thanks!

When does the ride start and do I need to check-in before I ride?
The ride pushes off from the Third Street Brewing Company in downtown Farmville. All routes and rest stops open at 9:00 am. Choose your start time to suit your ride distance and pace. We would like all riders to complete their check-in and start their ride before 11:00 am.
You need to check in before the ride to pick up your bib to wear while you ride, a swag bag (with your t-shirt if you raised at least $100), and a handout sheet. The handout sheet has a welcome and safety message, and a map showing the routes, our Headquarters, rest stops and restroom locations.
Bib pick-up starts at 8:00 am. Your bib is your "ticket" to access the food, beverages and swag at the sponsored rest stops along the trail. The rest stops open at 9:00 am.
At 1:00 pm plan to be back at the Third Street Brewing Company for a ceremony to recognize the top 3 fundraisers and our sponsors. There will be food trucks and music at the Third Street Brewing Company and the brewery itself will be open for business.

What is the 1:00 pm Ceremony at Headquarters?
We are inviting all of our participants to join us at the Third Street Brewing Company, our Headquarters, for a short ceremony to recognize our top fundraisers and our generous sponsors. The Alzheimer's Association will say a few words about their work. This will be a great time for our riders to enjoy the music, food trucks, sponsors' tents and the brewery.

Where do I park for the ride?
Parking will be available at the Wheeler Lot at Longwood University. See the map below. We will have signage to direct our participants to our designated parking lot. All riders need to park in the Wheeler Lot. You can drop your bike off in the Drop Off Zone at Headquarters and then drive to the Wheeler Lot to park. The lot is an easy 5 minute walk back to headquarters; it's free and you can park all day. This generous gift of parking by Longwood University will allow us to be good neighbors in Farmville where many events are taking place on our ride day. Volunteers at the Third Street Brewing Company on the day of the ride can help direct you to available parking locations and we will have lots of signage to help you find the lot and then get back to headquarters. We will continue to update our parking map as we get closer to the ride.

What type of bike is best for the ride?
The trail surface is well-packed crushed limestone, not paved. The preferred options are hybrids or mountain bikes with slicks. A road bike will work for the ride but you should expect the ride to be a bit rougher and you'll have to be attentive to any potential soft spots along the trail. A mountain bike with knobbies will also work but will not roll as easily as one with slicks.

Do I get a t-shirt for the ride?
Riders who raise $100 or more for Alzheimer's will receive a free tshirt with our logo. (See the sample photo of our tshirt - colors may vary.) If you are a rider who raised $100 or more, you will pick up your tshirt when you pick up your bib for the ride. Some of our logo tshirts may be available for sale on the day of the ride for those who did not raise $100. |
What if I need help with bike repair during the ride?
The Outdoor Adventure Store, about one block away from our headquarters at the Third Street Brewing Company, will have mechanics on duty at the store to help our riders. In addition, volunteer Ride Marshalls will be riding the trail to offer assistance if you encounter a problem. We recommend you think about bringing a few basics with you for the ride like an extra tube, wheel levers, a tire pump or inflation cartridge system, and a bike specific multi-tool.
