We, like so many families, have a direct connection to the impact of Alzheimer's. Over 5 million Americans, including my beautiful bride of over 45 years, are living with this disease. Alzheimer's is devastating to the person suffering from the disease and to the loved ones, family and friends who know the person with the disease. There is no cure. There is not much yet in the way of treatment. Research and development are needed to help make inroads on this progressive, degenerative, and heartbreaking illness. You lose your loved one day by day and you want to find a way to fight it. There are huge challenges to raising enough funding to discover treatment and prevention options.
Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer's Association advances research to end Alzheimer's and dementia while enhancing care for those living with the disease. Each June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month and June 21st, the solstice gave rise to one of the fundraising opportunities the Alzheimer's Association uses called "The Longest Day™." While there are organized fundraising events on that date individuals are encouraged to develop their own personal ways to support and raise funds using "The Longest Day™" as the mechanism on a day of their choice.
This year, I have decided to try and raise $5,000 through donations to the Alzheimer's Association through "The Longest Day™" by forming a team of friends and family to bike the High Bridge Trail together. The date is set for April 21st, 2018. Everyone is invited to join me. Those who want to ride and donate can join Team "High Bridge Ride" and ride one of the most spectacular trails in Virginia. Click on the button on this page (or on other pages on the website) to join team High Bridge Ride.
Let's fight this together! We can make a difference!
And, thank you!
